A Rincon man is in the Effingham County Jail on charges of brutally beating his girlfriend's 2-year-old child, said David Ehsanipoor, Effingham County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Just before 8 p.m Tuesday, Effingham County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on Holly Lane on a report of a child who was being abused.
Deputies and investigators arrived on the scene and found a 2-year-old child suffering from multiple injuries to her head, face, and other parts of her body," Ehsanipoor said. The victim was transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment.
"Robert Edwards, 24, of Rincon has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the 1st degree, cruelty to children in the 2nd degree, battery, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and terroristic threats after threatening to go to deputies house to kill them, " Ehsanipoor said.
Edwards has an extensive criminal history including drug charges, domestic violence charges, obstruction of a law enforcement officer charges and cruelty to children charges, Ehsanipoor said.
