Harold Oglesby, St. Joseph’s/Candler manager of respiratory therapy and sleep disorders medicine, today was named the 21st annual St. Joseph’s/Candler Lientz Award recipient.
The award, presented since 1993, is named for James R. Lientz who served as a trustee of Candler Hospital for more than 30 years and chairman for seven. He died in 2000 at age 87.
At work, Oglesby is known for his professionalism, expertise and compassion to both patients and his staff. He is known to come in nights and weekends when his staff needs him.
But he also inspires them, in his quiet and reserved nature, by recounting why he became a respiratory therapist and what it means to care for patients whose very life breath has been compromised.
His leadership spreads far beyond the walls of St. Joseph’s/Candler. As a prominent member of the 100 Black Men of Savannah, he has been instrumental in organizing an annual summer camp for teens at SJ/C to learn about the health care profession. He serves as the Health and Wellness Chairman for the 100 Black Men and recently coordinated activities for HIV testing day.
The Lientz Award includes a $3,000 check, a cafeteria pass, a parking pass, a SJ/C watch, a massage certificate and the prestigious Lientz Pin. 43 co-workers were nominated for the honor this year.
