Northbound traffic on Abercorn Street will be halted between Apache Drive and Science Drive until almost midnight as crews replace a utility pole and wiring destroyed by a one-vehicle crash about 4 p.m. today.
One driver was transported to a hospital for treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
Police had to stop traffic in the area after a car left the street and toppled a utility pole, pulling down wiring along the route, Miller said. The crash prompted several smaller collisions on Abercorn, but no injuries were reported in those.
The utility pole has been replaced, but the wiring must be addressed and the car involved in the original crash must be removed, Miller said. Electrical power was disrupted to some areas nearby.
Drivers may want to seek other routes.
