Speaking to a crowd of more than 2,000 people on Saturday at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, Dr. Mehmet Oz stressed the importance of passion and time management as key factors to a healthier lifestyle.
“On my show we like to have fun. I think laughing about life is more valuable than losing weight, which is why I think we often get caught up on these health issues, but in fact the reason why we focus on health and wellness is because it makes us feel better today, right now,” Dr. Oz told the crowd. “The one favor I’m going to ask you is to take what you learn today and you share it with people you love. That’s how we create the change that we see in the world.”
The lecture, sponsored by Gulfstream, was the third installment of its Live Well, Be Well program. Other speakers for the event were Dr. Terry Lyles and Lisa Oz. Gulfstream also presented grants to the West Broad Street YMCA and the Forsyth Farmers’ Market for their initiatives to bring fresh, local produce to the Savannah area.
Attendees also had the chance to enjoy a health fair sponsored by Memorial University Medical Center. The fair featured more than 50 booths offering free blood pressure checks, massages and tips for living a healthier life.
Sue Adler, a member of the physician relations outreach team at Memorial Health said that the fair was made possible by a great partnership with Gulfstream. “We’re thrilled to do it. I think people are really interested in their health and improving their health and taking care of themselves,” said Adler. “We were able to answer a lot of questions and do a lot of screenings, so I think it was a win-win for everyone today.”
