JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. — Amateur cooks and professional chefs will soon be squaring off on the Georgia coast to see who makes the tastiest shrimp and grits.
The 8th annual Shrimp & Grits festival opens Sept. 20 on Jekyll Island. The three-day, weekend event features cooking contests for its namesake dish plus craft beers and a country music concert.
Beer lovers will be able to sample brews from Southern Eagle Distributing at the air-conditioned Morgan Center.
And Southern Living magazine is sponsoring a concert on the Jekyll Island wharf featuring dinner and an intimate performance by country singer Rob Crosby.
More than 100 arts and crafts tents are planned for the 2013 festival, with more live music from regional acts on an outdoor stage.
