An attorney for illegal rooming house landlord Isaac “Ike” Lewis today filed an appeal and motion for bond in Chatham County Superior Court.

Chatham County Chief Recorder’s Court Judge Tammy Stokes on Aug. 20 sentenced Lewis, 55, to eight and a half months in the Chatham County jail and fined him $74,000 for violations of multiple city zoning, revenue and property ordinances.

She held to her ruling in a subsequent hearing, rejecting arguments from Lewis’ attorney, Bobby Phillips.

In documents filed today, Phillips asked for a new hearing on the issues and a trial on those same issues.

He also asked that Lewis be granted a bond to gain release from jail, pending a decision on the appeal..

Lewis “is a reputable businessman with Chatham County, poses no risk whatsoever of committing any other criminal act and therefore is not a threat to anyone in the community or to himself,” Phillips argued in his bond petition.

A bond hearing is scheduled on Friday.
