Here’s a list of ceremonies scheduled for Wednesday, 9/11, in metro Savannah in remembrance of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001, and the crash of a fourth plane in a Pennsylvania field.
• Chatham Area Transit:
At 8:46 a.m., all buses will pull their vehicles out of the flow of traffic and park. The operators will then stand outside their buses for one minute, in a moment of silence.
A statement from CAT reads: “Chatham Area Transit honors those heroes and victims of the attacks and those who rose to service in response to the attacks through good deeds and volunteer services. We also remember the families of those victims who
continue to struggle and cope with this tragedy.”
• At Christ Church on Johnson Square:
The large Revere and Sons bell, which was made in 1819, will be rung at the time of impact of each of the four planes.
At noon, the church will hold a Celebration of Holy Eucharist and Healing Service in the Demere Chapel on St. Julian Street.
• At Benedictine Military School:
From 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m, in the administration building, the Corps of Cadets will assemble to pay tribute to the victims of the attacks and to dedicate a 9/11 American flag, a piece of the Pentagon’s west wall and a memorial wreath.

• At the American Legion Post 184 in Thunderbolt:
At 9 a.m., American Legion Posts 184, 36 and 500 as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4392 will come together for the event.
During the ceremony, the police officer and firefighter of the year will be announced and an eyewitness to the WTC events will be on hand to share his firsthand account of his experience.
• At Fort Stewart- HAAF/ 3rd Infantry Division:
Where: Main Post Chapel, Fort Stewart
When: 11 a.m.
Chaplain (Col.) Gary Hensley, command chaplain for U.S. Army Japan and I Corps will be the guest speaker at the observance. The 3rd ID band will also perform.
