Georgia has two weeks to get ready for a tough LSU team. Not to discredit North Texas, but that one is a fundraiser. It’s an exhibition. Stockpile some money and put one in the win column.
Obviously, the victory over Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks saved the season. The big win gives the ’Dogs hope. Title shots are still out there.
Credit the Bulldogs fan base for rocking Sanford Stadium. That was awesome. Gave the Georgia players a real home field advantage. Wasn’t it fun?
OK, please tip your cap to Aaron Murray. And say this with me: “Murray won a big game.” Thanks. Aaron played big. He delivered a big-game performance. Make a note of that one.
Todd Gurley is a beast. Guess you’ve already figured that one out. He’s the best back in college football. Period. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo got him 31 touches against the Gamecocks. Smart move. Keith Marshall touched it nine times and is a dangerous man. Can you say “loaded at running back?”
Coach Bobo’s South Carolina plan was run heavy. ’Dogs ran it 53 times to 23 passes. Turned out to be a winning formula.
Thought the O-line elevated its play, after losing the battle at Clemson. John Theus got the start and handled his business. Kolton Houston has been strong. Kenarious Gates hung in there tough against Jadeveon Clowney before he got hurt. Murray had a cleaner pocket, and he took advantage of that.
Losing Malcolm Mitchell’s big-play ability hurts, but Justin Scott-Wesley picked up the slack with a 75-yard catch and sprint. Scott-Wesley and Chris Conley have an opportunity to shine with plays down the field. Michael Bennett and Arthur Lynch are excellent options short to intermediate. This unit is still a strong one.
Coach Todd Grantham is in a tough spot. He’s playing a lot of young, inexperienced dudes. The D-line is undersized. The secondary is green. The competition has been Top 10 quality. And LSU could be the best of the bunch.
Moving forward, look for Jordan Jenkins and Josh Harvey-Clemons to establish themselves as impact players. That should help elevate the defense. Need those two ’Dogs to be difference-makers.
Wonder if freshman corner Brendan Langley is going to hold up? He got picked on by both Clemson and Carolina. He’s in a tough spot. Can’t expect him to be Champ Bailey yet. Hope he hangs tough.
Another concern is the undersized D-line. Garrison Smith is legit, but is there another big body that can mix it up inside? John Taylor? Tobi Johnson? LSU will show up with a huge O-line and looking to dominate the line of scrimmage.
Take a deep breath, ’Dog fans. You’ve got some time to relax. Then, its back to another Top 10 challenge.
