Registered sex offenders on probation in Effingham County will be spending their Halloween at the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s Office Spokesman David Ehsanipoor said about 45 offenders have been contacted to report to the sheriff’s office from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The requirement is part of their probation.
The sheriff’s office has been requiring offenders on probation to report to the sheriff’s office for several years, Ehsanipoor said.
“We want to give parents some peace of mind and reduce the chance of something bad happening,” Ehsanipoor said.
This year the offenders will not be allowed to bring magazines, books and computers.
“We had problems with some of them looking at pornography,” Ehsanipoor said.
The offenders will be kept in a conference room for the evening.
