I can’t believe it’s already Rock 'n' Roll Savannah Marathon & ½ Marathon weekend!
The Savannah Health and Fitness Expo starts Nov. 1 as thousands join us in Savannah for the big race. The expo is free and open to everyone, whether you’re racing this time or not. For two days, more than 60 exhibitors will offer free samples, showcase the latest in running gear, sports apparel, health and nutritional information and much more. The expo is a great opportunity to pick up some cool new kicks for one of the other upcoming races this year. A few on my radar include the United Way Turkey Trot, Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run, Color Vibe 5K and the 3rd Annual Reindeer Run.
‘Johnny and Me’
There are a number of opportunities on the local art scene coming up. “Johnny Mercer and Me,” a musical based on the music of Johnny Mercer, will be at Muse Arts Warehouse on Nov. 9-11 and 15-18. Tickets are $20, and there’s a great cast including Jeff Hall, Sandra Nix and Grace Diaz Tootle. Tickets available at showclix.com/events/15680.
Telfair Art Fair
The 18th Annual Telfair Art Fair is Nov. 10-11 in Telfair Square, and there will be an Opening Night Preview on Nov. 9. This popular Southern open-air festival attracts thousands of high-end art collectors, tourists, area residents and families and is open to artists displaying and selling works in various artistic disciplines including painting, printmaking, drawing/pastel, digital media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics/pottery, photography, furniture, glass, textiles/fiber and mixed media.
About 115 artists will be featured this year. I’ve previewed some of the art that will be available, and it is a real treat! I’ve already got my eye on a piece by Atlanta artist Michelle Prahler. You can preview the artists and purchase tickets to the Arty Party preview event at telfair.org.
Moonlight museum
Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum will host their annual “Museum in the Moonlight” event 7-9 p.m. Nov. 10. Enjoy touring the brand new North Garden while enjoying the Assembly Dancers, who will entertain with period dances from the 1800s. The event is free and open to the public. Beverages and dessert will be available for purchase. For more info, check out their Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/407889852600099/.
Kids book fest
Have you ever heard of the book “How Rocket Learned to Read?” It’s a favorite in my house, and there’s a certain munchkin excited about the upcoming Children’s Book Festival presented by Live Oak Public Libraries, where author Tad Hills will read this sweet book to hundreds of people in Forsyth Park. The free Nov. 10 festival also will include authors and illustrators from throughout the Lowcountry and the Southeast, arts and crafts, costumed characters, a graphic/comics area and a variety of food and entertainment. For more info, visit liveoakpl.org.
