Benedictine is celebratdc senior night at Savannah State’s T.A. Wright Stadium by dominating visiting Jeff Davis 41-0.
Chance Jackson scored on an runs of 16 and 11 yards in the second half as BC pulled away.
The Cadets led 28-0 at halftime.
With 48 seconds left in the half, quarterback Stevie Powers and his Cadet offense started a drive on their 35-yard line. Powers completed passes to Brad Stewart, Joseph Holguin and Mike Huggins to move BC down to the Jeff Davis 19. Then Powers hit running back John Gaines inside the 5, but Gaines was ruled down at the half-yard line with three seconds left. Powers scored on a quarterback sneak on the next play.
Powers, a southpaw, had an impressive first half. He was 7 of 9 passing for 123 yards and a pair of scoring passes to his fellow sophomore Stewart.
Powers threw a ball down the left sideline which Stewart went high in the air to bring down for a 27-yard score on the Cadets first possession.
In the second quarter, Powers rolled to his right and made a difficult throw across his body – firing a strike that Stewart corralled for another 27-yard touchdown.
Gaines also made a big play on his first carry of the night, finding a seam up the middle and sprinting to the left sideline, where he got a key block from Stewart, before scoring a 55-yard touchdown.
