A Savannah man today was arraigned on a murder charge in the Halloween slaying of his estranged girlfriend.

Thomas Montrell Jackson, 43, faces a Nov. 29 preliminary hearing .before Chatham County Recorder’s Court Judge Harris Odell Jr. in the slaying of 36-year-old Melithia Singleton.

Jackson will remain in the Chatham County jail without bond. Only a Superior Court judge can set bond in a murder case.

Savannah-Chatham police have identified Jackson as the estranged boyfriend of the victim whose body was found dead about 6 p.m. on Oct. 31 in her Bradley Pointe Apartments residence in the 1300 block of Bradley Boulevard off Ogeechee Road after police received a report of a deceased person in the complex.

Police had held Jackson in the jail on a contempt-of-court charge since he turned himself in Thursday, said Gena Bilbo, police spokeswoman. He was officially charged in Singleton’s death on Saturday.
