Two brothers are in custody following the seizure of a large amount of cocaine by the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.
In October, CNT began targeting a residence in the 600 block of West 40th Street after agents, working in an undercover capacity, learned persons living there were distributing cocaine, said Agent Gene Harley, CNT spokesman. Agents quickly identified 23-year-old Phillip Bennett and 28-year-old Karlen Bennett as their primary suspects.
On Oct. 31, CNT agents executed a search warrant at the residence resulting in the seizure of crack cocaine, marijuana, four firearms and items commonly used in the distribution of controlled substances.
Karlen Bennett was present at the time of the search warrant and arrested without incident. Karlen Bennett was charged with numerous felony charges including trafficking cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Earlier today, with the assistance of officers with the Savannah Parole Office, CNT located and arrested Phillip Bennett at his residence where CNT executed the search warrant on Oct. 31.
Cocaine was found in Phillip Bennett’s possession at the time of his arrest. Phillip Bennett was charged with numerous felony charges including trafficking cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Both Phillip and Karlen Bennett are being held at the Chatham County jail.
Harley said the Bennett brothers are no strangers to police. Today’s arrest of Phillip Bennett marks his seventh arrest and eighth drug-related charge in Chatham County and his second arrest by CNT.
Phillip Bennett was on Parole for drug-related convictions at the time of his arrest. Karlen Bennett’s arrest on Oct. 31, marks his 17 arrest and his 12th drug-related charge in Chatham County
The estimated street value of the cocaine seized during the operation is approximately $5,000.
