Sure, there’s no Stephen King, but any kid will tell you Saturday’s book fest is a pretty big deal.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the free Savannah Children’s Book Festival returns to Forsyth Park. Hosts Live Oak Public Libraries and the city of Savannah are inviting families to swing by and celebrate the joy — and power — of reading.
“We are so thrilled to feature another stellar lineup of authors and illustrators,” says the libraries’ Christy Divine. “Children of all ages are excited to celebrate the joy of reading, the power of the written word and the magic of storytelling with us.”
More than 60 authors will present their work Saturday, with arts and craft, food and other entertainment alongside. J’miah Nabawi again will host the festival’s International Tent — which features a variety of multicultural musical performances and storytelling sessions — and young actors from the Savannah Children’s Theatre will present skits and short plays throughout the day.
“This event has grown to become the largest children’s book festival in the country,” Divine says. “The beauty of Savannah and our focus on children’s literature combine to draw folks from all over the country to our city for this festival.”
