USO Operation Phone Home
Nov. 7-30. The Coastal Bank, a leading community bank serving coastal Georgia, has officially launched a its third annual community-wide initiative to raise money for the USO’s Operation Phone Home, which provides pre-paid phone cards to deployed military personnel, enabling them to call loved ones while away from their families this holiday season. A $5 donation will provide a soldier with a phone card to call home.
Members of the public can purchase a phone card online at www.phonehomesav.com or visit any of following Coastal Bank locations to make a donation to the 2012 USO Operation Phone Home: Johnson Square - 18 West Bryan Street; Stephenson Avenue - 412 Stephenson Avenue; Pooler - 501 West Highway 80; Godley Station - 140 Towne Center Boulevard; Rincon - 5799 Highway 21 South; Hinesville - 101 West Hendry Street.

“Johnny Mercer and Me!”
8 p.m. Nov. 9, 10, 15, 16, 17; 3 p.m. Nov. 11, 18. Muse Theater. “Johnny Mercer and Me!” is a completely revamped story based on the life of popular American songwriter and singer John Herndon “Johnny” Mercer. Written by Miriam K. Center, the show was originally produced in 2009 at The Savannah Civic Center and has been completely reworked to reflect more of the life of Johnny Mercer and his music. All seats $20. Veterans Day program at SSU
7 p.m. Nov. 9. King-Frazier Student Center Ballroom, Savannah State University Campus. Veterans Day program honoring all military service members at 7 p.m. will be held in the King-Frazier Student Center Ballroom. Maj. Ken M. Harrison of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve will be the guest speaker. In conjunction with the program, the SSU Coastal Empire Sound Explosion and NROTC Drill Team will perform a special salute to veterans Saturday, Nov. 10, during the home football game v. Coat and blanket drive
Alfred Ely Beach High School is hosting a coat and blanket drive to help support students and families in need. Now through Nov. 17, new and clean, gently used coats and blankets will be accepted. A.E. Beach High School will host two “drop off” locations on-site.
Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., donors can drop off coats and blankets with Kristen Swanson in the Guidance Office or with Monica Daughtry in the Media Center. On Saturday, Nov. 17, A.E. Open call interviews
4-8 p.m. Nov. 9. A. E. Beach High School, auditorium, 3001 Hopkins St. Open call interviews for “A Legacy Forgotten: Blue & Gold Pride,” a film about the legacy of A. E. Beach High School in Savannah, GA, will be held on Nov. 9. This open call is open to all alumni of A. E. Beach High School. It is an opportunity for alumni of all generations to express their thoughts about their alma mater and become a part of this historic film project. “The Hollow”
7 p.m. Nov. 8 and Nov. 9; 2 p.m. Nov.10. Wilmington Island United Methodist Church, 195 Wilmington Island Rd. “The Hollow” by Agatha Chrisite will be performed at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 with dessert at 7 p.m. and the show at 7:30 p.m. The play will be performed again on Saturday, Nov. 10 with dessert at 2 p.m. and the show at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by contacting the church office at 912-897-2835.

Advanced Project Management

Advanced Project Management covers the prestigious Project Management Institute’s five phases of a project: Initiating and Closing Projects; Success Planning; Project Simulation; Controlling your Project, and Project Management Professional Responsibility. AASU Office of International Education presents fall events
7 p.m. Nov. 9. Ogeechee Theatre, Armstrong Campus, 11935 Abercorn St. The Office of International Education and its co-sponsors, the Germany Friendly Society and the German Heritage Society of Savannah, will welcome Dr. Andrea Mehränder, executive director of the Checkpoint Charlie Foundation, who will open a window to contemporary Berlin with her talk, “Reunified Berlin 23 Years After the Fall of the Wall.”
