Founders Day at SSU
10 a.m. Nov. 16. Tiger Arena, Savannah State University Campus. United States Navy Rear Adm. Willie Metts will be the guest speaker at SSU’s annual Founders Day observance at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16. Metts’ personal awards include three Legion of Merit awards, two Defense Meritorious Service Medal awards, the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and various service and joint expeditionary medals and ribbons.

“Johnny Mercer and Me!”
8 p.m. Nov. 9, 10, 15, 16, 17; 3 p.m. Nov. 11, 18. Muse Theater. “Johnny Mercer and Me!” is a completely revamped story based on the life of popular American songwriter and singer John Herndon “Johnny” Mercer. Written by Miriam K. Center, the show was originally produced in 2009 at The Savannah Civic Center and has been completely reworked to reflect more of the life of Johnny Mercer and his music. All seats $20. B&D Burger eat off for Charity
2:30 p.m. Nov. 16. B&D Burgers, 209 West Congress St. Police VS Firefighters in a colossal battle of the appetites Nov. 16. Bring the entire family for all of the fun. Admission is free and B&D Burgers will donate $1000 to the winning teams charity of choice.

Donation and recycling event
10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 16. Westside Business Park, 45 Columbia Drive, Pooler. As part of their sustainable initiatives, Marchese Construction is proud to sponsor a Goodwill donation and recycling event. Donate clothes, blankets, coats, shoes, belts, purses, book bags, kids toys, cooking and kitchen items, usable furniture, books, CDs, DVDs’and players, working small-appliances, washers and dryers, Working televisions, computer equipment and cell phones. Goodwill will provide donors with a tax receipt at the time of donations.

Free Health Care Directives for Heroes
9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Fridays. Week of Nov. 12, 315 Commercial Drive, Suite C. To honor local heroes for their service and sacrifice this Veteran’s Day, the attorneys at Smith Barid, LLC will offer free health care directives the week of Nov. 12.
Active or retired military personnel, veterans, police, fire and other first responders are invited to visit the firm the week of Nov.12 (M-Th; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and F 9 a.m.-12 p.m.) to pick an advance directive to legally document their medical and/or end-of-life wishes and appoint someone they trust to manage their affairs and communicate with doctors on their behalf in the event of an emergency or incapacity. 11th Annual Waiting on a Cure Luncheon
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Savannah Marriott Riverfront, 100 General MacIntosh Blvd. This annual event raises funds for the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center. This year’s theme is “I Spy a Cure.” Table hosts will be dressed in costumes to match the theme and will serve their guests in exchange for generous tips for the Anderson Cancer Institute.
