One driver is in critical condition and two passengers from each vehicle were treated for injuries after a 2 p.m. collision today, says Police spokeman Julian Miller.
Shakiem Applewhite, 20, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries after the 2002 Ford Taurus he was driving east on East 36th Street ran a stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck.
Carlos Sibert, 37, was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Silverado south on Bee Road and was unable to avoid crashing into the driver’s side door of the Taurus, pushing it through a plastic fence and into a house in the 1600 block of 36th.
Applewhite and a passenger in his car, Omar Williams, 20, of Statesboro, were extricated by Savannah Fire firefighters. Williams and Chelsea Sibert, 15, a passenger in the pickup truck, were transported by Southside EMS to Memorial for treatment of injuries. Carlos Sibert was transported by family members.
The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the collision.
