A Gracious Christmas

Advice and demonstrations aimed at making the upcoming holiday season a memorable one will be presented at First Presbyterian Church’s third annual A Gracious Christmas event on Nov. 29, the first Thursday after Thanksgiving. Stuff a Bus Toy Drive
7 a.m.-9 p.m. Nov. 26-Nov. 30. Oglethorpe Mall. Y107.9 is hosting a round the clock toy drive campaign for the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots 2012” Kicking off Monday, Nov. 26 at 7 a.m. and running continuously until 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 at Oglethorpe Mall. Y107.9 DJ Brad Wells will live inside an RV donated by Dick Gore’s RV World in the Oglethorpe Mall parking lot in an attempt to fill the RV with new, unwrapped toys that will benefit Chatham, Effingham, Beaufort and Jasper county children in need. Donations will be accepted at any hour during the toy drive.
Free HIV Testing
3-7 p.m. Nov. 29. West Broad Street YMCA. The West Broad Street YMCA and Savannah State University will host World AIDS Day Recognition Nov. 29. The confidential free HIV testing is done by oral swab with results in 20 minutes. The Chatham County Health Department will conduct the test. For more information, call 912-358-3227.
USO Operation Phone Home
Nov. 7-30. The Coastal Bank, a leading community bank serving coastal Georgia, has officially launched a its third annual community-wide initiative to raise money for the USO’s Operation Phone Home, which provides pre-paid phone cards to deployed military personnel, enabling them to call loved ones while away from their families this holiday season. A $5 donation will provide a soldier with a phone card to call home.

Holiday Wreath Embellishment Workshop
10 a.m.-12 p.m. Nov. 29. Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens, 2 Canebrake Road. Consider growing plants in your garden that can be used to “beef-up” your ordinary fir wreath this December. Using a pre-made fir wreath and form as the foundation, embellish the green needles with extraordinary foliage textures and colors. Registrants will learn the basic steps to wreath-making with a concentration on using common garden plant cuttings to create a more professional, dynamic wreath to hang on the front door. Workshop fee includes the cost of a 24-inch fir wreath as well as various dried and fresh-cut greenery to make a personal masterpiece. Please bring gloves and a small wire cutters. $20 per student.

Savannah Kennel Club 2012 Dog Show
8:30 a.m. Nov. 29-Dec. 2. Coastal Empire Fairgrounds, 4801 Meding St. In addition to the dog show, the club will be hosting obedience and rally trials, a Carting Workshop, and a Puppy Class Show (4 to 6 months). Food vendors, dog rescue groups, and vendors selling pet-related merchandise will be at the four-day event. The event is free but there is a $5 charge for parking.
