A Guyton woman is in jail today after being involved in a hit-and-run and leading Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit.

Deputies were dispatched to Courthouse and Midland Roads at about 9 p.m. last night, to investigate a crash with injuries.

The driver of a black SUV hit another vehicle from behind and then left the scene. A sheriff’s deputy observed the suspect vehicle traveling on Little McCall Road, where he attempted a traffic stop.

The driver, 30-year-old Rebecca Wickman, led the deputy on a pursuit that exceeded 85 miles per hour. When she entered the Guyton area, deputies performed a PIT maneuver (pursuit intervention technique), which ended the pursuit.

After the crash, Wickman still refused deputies’ commands. They broke the passenger side window and remove her from the vehicle, said Sheriff's Spokesman David Ehsanipoor.

The victim of the hit-and-run at Courthouse and Midland roads was treated for minor injuries.

Wickmen was charged with hit-and-run, fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, interference with government property and reckless driving.

Wine bottles, prescription pills and a child car seat were found in her vehicle, Ehsanipoor said.

She was taken to an area hospital before being taken to the Effingham County Jail.
