A Pooler man on Wednesday was indicted for criminal attempt to commit murder in the November assault with a meat cleaver on his 8-year-old stepdaughter.
Li Chen hit Judy Chen in the head with the “bladed end of a meat cleaver” on Nov. 27, the Chatham County grand jury determined. The assault occurred in the presence of at least two other minor children, the indictment charged.
The indictment obtained by Assistant District Attorney Ann Elmore also charged Chen, 31, with multiple cruelty to a child counts including by assaulting the victim in the presence of two children under age 18, and family violence aggravated battery by rendering the victim “rendering useless her eyes… by penetrating her skull … and causing her to lose vision.”
The victim survived.
