Animal hospital offers Christmas pet photos
Dec. 8. The Animal Hospital at Rice Hope, 7512 Highway 21, Port Wentworth. The Animal Hospital at Rice Hope will be offering clients a chance to have their pets picture made with Santa Dec. 8. The cost will be $10 per photo and all the proceeds will go to benefit CURE Childhood Cancer in Savannah.
“Christmas with a Capital ‘C’”

Savannah Christian Church, 55 Al Henderson Blvd. “Christmas with a Capital ‘C’” is a Christmas musical being presented now through Dec. 16 by the Savannah Christian Church drama ministry. The production centers around the people in a fictional town called Trapper Falls, where Christmas has long been rich in common traditions until an attorney returns home and demands that the nativity scene and the very word “Christmas” be banished. Willis J. Potts Jr. to speak at Armstrong’s Fall Commencement
9:45 a.m. Dec. 8. Armstrong Sports Center, 11935 Abercorn St. University System of Georgia Regent Willis J. Potts Jr. will address nearly 650 candidates for graduation at Armstrong Atlantic State University’s fall 2012 commencement ceremony on Dec. 8. After a successful career in the international pulp and paper industry and a longtime commitment to leadership, education and service, in 2006, Potts was appointed to represent the Eleventh Congressional District on the University System of Georgia Board of Regents by Gov. Sonny Perdue. He served as chair of the board from July 2010 to June 2011.
Elf Academy

Mayor Jackson to speak at SSU commencement
10 a.m. Dec. 8. Tiger Arena, Savannah State University. Savannah State University will host its 181st commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 8 in Tiger Arena. About 215 students will receive undergraduate and graduate degrees during the ceremony, which is free and open to the public. The Honorable Edna Branch Jackson, mayor of the city of Savannah, will be the guest speaker.
Christmas Craft Sale and English Tea
10 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 8. Wilmington Island United Methodist Church, 195 Wilmington Island Road. The Wilmington Island Garden Club’s Annual Christmas Craft Sale and English Tea will be Dec. 8. Christmas crafts, seasonal wreaths and arrangements, live greens, custom-made bows, pet gifts and gifts for teachers and hostesses will be available. There will also be a bake sale and attic treasures. Proceeds go to all our projects to beautify Wilmington Island. The cost is a $5 donation for the tea.
SkateFest
Dec. 8-Jan. 6. Savannah Civic Center. SkateFest, the yearly public ice skating event at the Savannah Civic Center, kicks off Dec. 8 and runs daily through Jan. 6. With three to six public skating sessions daily, SkateFest is convenient for everyone. Each SkateFest session is 90 minutes long. SkateFest is closed on Christmas. Admission to SkateFest is $7 per person for skaters and spectators. Skate rental is included in the admission fee.
Anniversary of the creation of Emanuel County
11 a.m. Dec. 8. Lawn of the Emanuel County Courthouse. In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the creation of Emanuel County, a monument is being erected and will be dedicated Dec. 8 on the lawn of the Emanuel County Courthouse. The Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society is planning activities at the Emanuel County Farm and Home Museum to celebrate this historic event. Judge John Ellington of the Georgia Court of Appeals will be the keynote speaker for the dedication. The public is invited to attend both the monument dedication and the events at the Emanuel County Farm and Home Museum.
Heritage Gala
7 p.m. Dec. 8. Jepson Center/Telfair Museum of Art. The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Heritage Gala will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Jepson Center/Telfair Museum of Art. All proceeds raised at this fundraising event go to the Cathedral Endowment Fund for the preservation of this historic church, built in 1876. Gala attendees will enjoy the Uffizi Art Exhibition as well as silent and live auctions. The tickets include all food, beverages, dancing, valet parking and the opportunity to view the Jepson Galleries. The cost is $150 per guest to the black tie-optional event. ‘Salome’ Parlor Play

‘An Inconceivable Event’
5:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Carmike 10 Savannah. On Dec. 8, for one night only and to honor the 25th anniversary of this incredible movie, “The Princess Bride” will come to the big screen at Carmike Theater, 511 Stephenson Ave. in Savannah. To mark the occasion, a pre-event called “An Inconceivable Event!” will take place in the parking lot before the screening, with a percentage of the proceeds to benefit Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia.
