The Chatham County grand jury has issued a no bill on murder and related charges for Port Wentworth police officers Loren Scholes III and Michael McDonald.
The charges were linked to the June 26 death of Deshone Travis in Port Wentworth.
A no bill means the grand jurors found insufficient evidence to send the case to Superior Court for trial.
The two officers opened fire on Travis as he backed his car out of a driveway on Corsair Circle in the city’s Newport subdivision.
Police Chief Matt Libby said at the time that his officers’ lives were placed in “imminent danger” when Travis, described as a suspect in a robbery at Pooler’s Wendy’s on June 25, rapidly backed his car toward them.
