Savannah-Chatham police are seeking help identifying and locating a man wanted in connection with the theft of packages from downtown Savannah residences, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
The black male, believed to be middle-aged, has been photographed taking packages from downtown houses. He has been seen riding a bicycle while carrying packages. He sometimes wears a green jacket that appears to belong to a city employee, but investigators have determined he is not a city employee.
As many as eight reports have been filed that packages either being left for pickup by delivery services or those left at front doors by delivery services have disappeared.
Downtown Precinct detectives suspect someone could be following delivery trucks and taking packages when no one answers the door immediately.
Detectives suggest residents who expect packages but don’t expect to be home when they are delivered to ask neighbors to take them in for safe keeping. They also suggest that packages not be left for pickup at residences.
Anyone with information on such thefts or the identity and/or location of the suspect is asked to call Crimestoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
