Platinum recording artist JoJo will headline the 2012 Savannah Pride festival next month, organizers announced Tuesday.
“We’ve seen big names at Pride before,” said Chris Brown, president of Savannah Pride, “but to have someone as big as JoJo headlining this year's festival says something about the amount of community support we’ve received this year."
JoJo debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, went platinum in the U.S., and sold 3 million albums worldwide, propelled by the success of hit singles “Baby It’s You” and “Leave (Get Out)." The latter hit No. 1 at Top 40, making JoJo, then 13, the youngest solo artist ever to score a No. 1 single in the U.S.
In 2006, JoJo released her second album "The High Road," which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and spawned the hit single “Too Little Too Late,” which broke the record for biggest one-week jump into the Top 3.
“I'm very much looking forward to headlining Savannah's Gay Pride Festival next month," JoJo Levesque said. "I'm excited to visit this beautiful city and perform songs from my previous albums, as well as debut new records from my upcoming release."
Also an actress, JoJo has appeared on TV in "The Bernie Mac Show" and "American Dreams," and the feature films "RV," with Robin Williams, and "Aquamarine," which earned her a Teen Choice Award nomination. She also has been nominated for two Billboard Music Awards and an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, making her the youngest artist ever to be nominated for a VMA.
Savannah Pride will take place on Sept. 8. The nonprofit still is seeking volunteers, vendors and sponsorships. Anyone interested in participating may email Brown at chris@savpride.com.
