About 3,300 Georgia Power customers in the Coastal area are presently without power after storms on Monday rolled through the region, downing trees and shutting down traffic signals.
Georgia Power spokesman John Kraft said power will be restored to all customers as soon as possible. He reported 80 different outage locations.
"Crews will be working throughout the night," he said.
As many as 8,500 customers, from Effingham County down the coast to Brunswick, were without power by around 5 p.m. today, Kraft said. Most of the affected area has been in Savannah, he said.
Kraft advised residents to be aware of dangerous down power lines.
