A wild turkey that attacked a Jackson County deputy was fatally shot Sunday afternoon, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.
The deputy was dispatched to a home off Georgia Highway 330, Bogart, about 1:30 p.m. Sunday by a resident who said a turkey was on her front porch and was refusing to leave, according to a Jackson County Sheriff’s report.
The deputy said he tried several times to get the turkey off the porch, but it wouldn’t leave. The woman’s husband and the deputy, who armed himself with a broom, got the turkey off the porch, but it charged the deputy, the report noted.
The deputy used the broom against the turkey, which aggressively attacked it, then charged the deputy, according to the report.
“I had no other choice but to shoot the turkey,” the deputy said.
