A 53-year-old pedestrian who was struck Thursday night by a pickup truck has died.
John Robertson, of the 10000 block of Abercorn Street, was walking near the intersection of Abercorn and Wilshire Boulevard when a Chevrolet truck hit him about 8:30 p.m., said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman. Roberston later died at Memorial University Medical Center.
The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team determined Robertson was crossing Abercorn without a walk signal when he was struck by the vehicle driven by a 39-year-old Idaho woman. The woman has not been charged.
MAIT officers investigated two other wrecks involving pedestrians Thursday evening, Miller said.
A 24-year-old homeless man was struck by a car near West Bay and Scarborough streets about 5:30 p.m., Miller said. That person was listed in serious but stable condition Friday.
About 10:10 p.m., a 51-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after she was struck in a hit-and-run incident on the westbound side of West Gwinnett Street near the U.S. 17 overpass, Miller said.
Witnesses told investigators the vehicle, an older model car, stopped momentarily before speeding away, Miller said.
MAIT officers continue to investigate all three accidents. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
