A man in his 50s was killed Friday evening when he was struck by a car while crossing Waters Avenue on Savannah’s southside.
The Savannah-Chatham police Major Accident Investigation Team Friday night was continuing to investigate after George Buchanan was struck near Waters’ intersection with Shannon Lane, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
Investigators determined Buchanan was hit by a car driven by a 31-year-old about 6:15 p.m., Miller said. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Memorial University Medical Center.
His was the second death of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Savannah in less than 24 hours after 53-year-old John Robertson died of injuries he received when he was struck while crossing Abercorn Street near Wilshire Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Miller said MAIT officers are continuing to investigate both incidents.
