A Savannah man today was indicted on rape, murder and related charges in the Sept. 30 slaying of Amber DeLoach.
Shan Demetrius Cheley, 36, caused DeLoach’s death by strangling her , the Chatham County grand jury determined in a seven-count indictment.
DeLoach, an 18-year-old former St. Vincent’s Academy student and Island High School alumna, was found slain inside a burning car in an area off West Oglethorpe Avenue near Yamacraw Village. While firefighters were extinguishing the flames, they found her body inside a black Dodge Avenger.
The indictment charges Cheley with malice murder, felony murder during the commission of an aggravated assault and rape, aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance.
Cheley remains in the Chatham County jail without bond.
