Longtime assistant replaces Rick Tomberlin
Effingham County High has hired longtime assistant Buddy Holder as the new Rebel football coach. Holder was approved by the Effingham Board of Education at a school board meeting Wednesday.
Holder takes over for Rick Tomberlin, who announced his retirement last month after three seasons with the Rebels.
Holder has been a Rebel assistant for 14 seasons. He’s been an offensive coordinator, linebacker's coach and since 2004 has worked with the team’s running backs.
A graduate of Evans High, Holder helped lead the Knights to consecutive Class AAAA baseball titles in 1988 and 1989 and earned a baseball scholarship to Georgia Southern. He was a member of GSU team that played in the College World Series in 1990.
