The 5 Spot hosts Grand Opening
Jan. 10. The 5 Spot. To celebrate their success thus far, The 5 Spot will host its Grand Opening event on Jan. 10. The event will include music, art by Tobia Makeover, two for $5 drink specials including a specialty cocktail and $5 appetizer specials all night long. Complimentary champagne will be served all night and guests will enjoy complimentary light appetizers from the tasting menu. The grand opening starts at 4 p.m. There will be a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. Parts of the evenings proceeds will be donated to the HSGS.
Habitat Savannah announces dates for Homeowner Application process
Habitat for Humanity Savannah is opening its 2013 Habitat Homeownership process to pre-qualification applications on Jan.14, 2013. Eligibility is limited to Chatham County residents who have completed and submitted their applications prior to the 5 p.m., Jan. 21, 2013 deadline. Applications submitted following that deadline will not be considered.
Applications are available electronically at www.habitatsavannah.org/Apply.html or by visiting the organization’s 1106 E. 70th Street office. A receptacle containing applications is placed on the organization’s front porch during the pre-application acceptance period – Jan.14 through Jan. 21, 2013.
Senior Citizens, Inc.’s Annual Blanket Drive
Beginning Jan. 7 through Jan. 31, anyone donating a new blanket at the following Starbucks coffee stores and at SCI headquarters will receive a coupon for a free tall cup of coffee from Starbucks. The Blanket Drive will kick-off on Monday, Jan. 7 from 6-10 a.m. at the Starbucks Coffee store located at 1 East Broughton Street.
Locations include: 49 E. Montgomery Crossroads, 2106 E. Victory Drive, 1 E. Broughton Street, 5500 Abercorn Street (Twelve Oaks Shopping Center), 7804 Abercorn Street (Oglethorpe Mall).
Live it Out- A night of worship at Calvary Day School
6 p.m. Jan. 10. Calvary Day School. Calvary Day School will present a night of Worship Jan. 10 featuring Abandon and The Isaac Smith Band from Tapestry Church. The event will include music, food from Chick-Fil-A and giveaways. Admission is granted with a canned good donation for America’s Second Harvest Food Bank of Georgia. Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma Support Group
5-6 p.m. Jan. 10. Summit Cancer Care office, Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center. This education and support group is for individuals with blood-related cancers and their loved ones. Call for artists
Lutheran Services of Georgia invites you to bring out your artistic creations for the Charity Art Auction scheduled for Feb. 28, 2013. We welcome 5 x 7 submissions - whether they be photographs, paintings, watercolors, oils, ceramics - for judging. Other sizes to be auctioned are also welcome.

Melissa is one of our newest members and is a local photograph encaustic artist. She applies layers of encaustic wax over photographs giving them a great depth and beauty.
