For the second day in a row, a high temperature of 81 degrees broke a heat record in Savannah. The previous local heat record for Jan. 15 was 80 degrees in 1989, said Bern Beaver, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston, S.C.
Monday’s 81 degrees beat a 1932 record of 80 degrees. Saturday, too, hit 81 degrees, breaking a 1949 record of 79 degrees.
Beaver said the Coastal Empire is in for more hot weather Wednesday, with temperatures nearing the record Jan. 16 high of 81 degrees. Then, he said, the week will start to cool down.
“Thursday, we’re looking for a high of around 69 and Friday, 55,” he said. “So one more warm day.”
