A man died Tuesday evening after a shooting in the Windsor Forest neighborhood.
After receiving reports of shots fired in the area, Savannah-Chatham police and Southside Fire/EMS first responders arrived at the scene in the 400 block of Sharondale Road about 6:45 p.m. where they found Evan Colquitt, 17, seriously injured, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
Colquitt died at Memorial University Hospital of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police determined an altercation had occurred in the area and the man was running away when he was shot, Miller said. Police were talking to several people in the area following the incident but did not indicate if they had identified any suspects.
Police are asking the public to share any information they may have on the case.
Neighbors who gathered just outside the taped-off crime scene near the intersection of Sharondale and Golf Club Drive said they heard several shots fired.
Tamara Dresch, who lives about a block away from where the shooting occurred in Windsor Forest, said she’s noted several instances where police had been called to the home where the incident appeared to have started.
“There’s a lot of police activity right there,” said Dresch, who moved to the neighborhood about three years ago. “I’m not sure what goes on there, but I’ve definitely seen the police there more times than you’re comfortable with.”
For the most part, she said, her neighborhood seems safe and is full of “good neighbors.”
“Definitely, this kind of thing happening right here makes you nervous,” she said. “No one wants to see that in our neighborhood.”
Colquitt was the second murder victim of 2013 after a 21-year-old Rebecca Foley was found shot to death at a southside apartment complex Monday night.
