The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a body in a vehicle that was found on fire on the side of May River Road early Tuesday.
Just before 3 a.m., officers with the Bluffton Police Department located a Honda Civic engulfed in flames on the side of May River Rd (S.C. 46) near Linden Plantation Drive. Bluffton firefighters arrived on scene and upon extinguishing the fire, found the body of a female in the driver’s seat.
The vehicle did not appear to have been involved in any collision. Neither the cause of the fire nor the cause of the victim’s death have been determined at this time. Positive identification of the victim is pending completion of an autopsy.
