A Savannah man today was sentenced to 20 years in prison – with 15 to serve – for his conviction last week of assaulting his live-in girlfriend in 2010.
Alfred Wayne Perry – who refused to attend his trial – was convicted on an aggravated assault charge in the Aug. 22, 2010, attack, but acquitted on charges of rape, aggravated sodomy, and two counts of false imprisonment.
Perry, 40, attended his sentencing hearing after his attorney, James Byrne assured the court his client would not be disruptive.
Assistant District Attorney Frank Pennington II, who asked Karpf to impose the maximum term of 20 years, presented evident of two earlier convictions against Perry for violent acts against women.
