Jury deliberations continued Monday evening in the trial of two men charged in the May 16-17 armed robbery/home invasion that paralyzed downtown Savannah that morning.
The eight women and four men on the jury got the case about 2:30 p.m.
Actions by defendants Brian Jones and Kevin Dale Brooks "horrified" a 12-year-old caught in the middle, assistant district attorney Jerry Rothschild told the jury during closing arguments Monday.
Addressing Earl Hamilton's role in the case, Rothschild told the jury that if they did not like Hamilton they could ignore his involvement and it would do nothing to weaken the prosecution’s case. "Certainly this was a drug rip," he told jurors.
Rothschild's comments came during closing arguments in the trial of the two men charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and related offences.
The defense lawyers characterized the case as a drug deal gone bad which ensnared their clients.
"These are two dumb young men and they're buying drugs and something went awry," Jones' lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Bob Attridge told jurors.
Both defense lawyers conceded their clients had committed some of the crimes but not all and urged the jurors to carefully consider the evidence before convicting anyone.
Jurors were expected to get the case for deliberation for early this afternoon after receiving instructions on the law to be applied to the evidence.
