The Savannah Morning News and savannahnow.com today announced Marshall Faulk as the keynote speaker for the 2013 Best of Preps banquet, presented by Georgia Ports Authority.
Faulk was a three-time All-American at San Diego State University who was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the second overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft.
He later played with the St. Louis Rams and was the NFL's offensive player of the year when the Rams won the Super Bowl in 1999.
Faulk is one of only three NFL players (alongside Marcus Allen and Tiki Barber) to reach at least 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards; he is the only one to amass 12,000 yards rushing and 6,000 yards receiving.
He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 in his first year of eligibility. Faulk is currently a pro football analyst for NFL Total Access, Thursday Night Football, and NFL Game Day Morning on the NFL Network.
“We are excited to bring an athlete of Marshall’s caliber to Savannah for the Best of Preps banquet,” said Michael Traynor, publisher of the Savannah Morning News and savannahnow.com. “Recognizing the outstanding athletes in our high schools is a job we are proud to do, and to have someone with Marshall’s record of athletic and philanthropic accomplishments speak at this banquet is a great honor.”
