Spring Break Week registration
The Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club at 510 E. Charlton St. and the Kayton Frazier Boys & Girls Club at 801 Brewer St. are accepting children ages 5-18. Hours for both units are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. A snack and complete dinner are served daily. The youth development programs focus on academic success, career development, character, leadership and healthy lifestyles. Individual registration fees are no more than $10 and scholarships are available. Registration begins March 1. Cancer study enrollment to take place in Savannah
Through March 1. Residents of the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry have an unprecedented opportunity to participate in a historic study that has the potential to change the face of cancer for future generations. From Feb. 26-March 1, the American Cancer Society is asking men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer to participate in the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Baccha Bash
7-9 p.m. March 1. Dub’s Pub, 225 W. River St. The Paint the Town Red Committee’s annual Baccha Bash integrates social and professional networking with philanthropy. This year’s event will be March 1 in the private room upstairs at Dub’s Pub. The Paint the Town Red group supports our local American Red Cross by conducting a blind wine tasting, where even the loser gets to take something home! The competition is based on teams of one to four participants. Each team brings three bottles of the same favorite wine to the event. Therefore, if it’s a group of five to eight, you will need to bring six bottles of wine. Admission is $40 per person. All funds support our local chapter. First Friday and Saturday on the river
4-10 p.m. March 1; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. March 2. River Street. Shake off those winter blues by celebrating the end of the week and the beginning of a new month with First Friday and Saturday on Historic River Street! Start your weekend off with a bang, as First Friday fireworks presented by Wet Willie’s begin at 9:30 p.m. March 1.

‘Honoring an Educator’
March 1. De Soto Hilton Hotel. Horizons Savannah is proud to host its third annual “Honoring an Educator” Gala and Silent Auction on March 1 at the De Soto Hilton Hotel. This year’s honoree will be Dr. Annette Brock, an educator who has worked in both K-12 education and in academia and is the recipient of multiple awards for her scholarship and humanitarianism. Effingham Adventure Weekend
Effingham Adventure Weekend is a four-day event at Effingham County High School. XTreme Student Night is April 11 and is free and open to all youth. The Women’s Banquet on April 12 will feature LaDonna Gatlin. Tickets are $10 and go on sale March 1. The Outdoor Expo on April 13 is free and will feature a car show, family activities, giveaways and a silent auction. Hank Hough will also present a dog show with his trained Labrador retrievers. The Men’s Dinner will be April 13. Tickets are $10 and go on sale March 1. The final event will be at 6 p.m. April 14, with Charles Billingsly leading a powerful worship time. ‘The Three Musketeers’
8 p.m. March 1-2; 3 p.m. March 3. Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn St. The Savannah College of Art and Design performing arts department continues its winter season with Ken Ludwig’s family-friendly swashbuckling adventure, “The Three Musketeers,” adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for anyone younger than 18 and those with senior, student or military ID and $5 for SCAD students with ID. SCAD Performing Arts is offering a special $50 family package, which includes tickets for two adults and two children younger than 18. Family package available March 1-3. Free tax assistance and preparation
Through April 12. Live Oak Public Library, 2002 Bull St. and Live Oak Public Library-SW Chatham Branch, 14097 Abercorn St. AARP Foundation is again providing free tax preparation assistance and e-filing of both federal and state returns for taxpayers with low to moderate incomes through the AARP Tax-Aide program, a free tax assistance and preparation service giving special attention to people older than 60. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service. The Bull Street Library will provide services from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday. The Southwest Chatham Library will provide services from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Savannah Boat and Outdoor Show
March 1-3. Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. The Savannah International Trade and Convention Center will become a mecca for boaters, fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts March 1-3 when the 11th annual Savannah Boat and Outdoor Show floats into town. Show hours are noon-6 p.m. March 1; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. March 2; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. March 3. Tickets are $8 for adults ($5 Friday; may not be combined with other discounts), $5 for military with ID, $3 for children ages 4-12 and free for children 3 and younger.

StarGuard Lifeguard Course
Chatham County Aquatic Center, 7420 Sallie Mood Drive. Chatham County Aquatic Center will host a StarGuard Lifeguard Course on March 1-3, March 22-24 and April 5-7. Skill requirements include: swim 200 yards, one-minute water tread with no hands and ability to dive and retrieve a 10-pound brick from 9 feet of water. CPR and first aid included. World Day of Prayer 2013
7 p.m. March. 1. St. Phillip A.M.E. Church, 613 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Savannah Church Women United presents World Day of Prayer 2013 on March 1. The theme is “I Was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me.” Prepared bt the W.D.P. Committee of France.

Call for entries
Kobo Gallery in downtown Savannah seeks a 3-D artist to join it’s cooperative gallery. Artist must be a full-time resident of Savannah or nearby area. Work to be considered includes sculpture, glass, ceramics and wood. If interested please submit 5-10 images of your work, plus resume/CV and biography to info@kobogallery.com.

Jewish Journeys: Art Exhibit and free workshops
Through March 17. Jewish Educational Alliance, 5111 Abercorn St. Jewish Journeys, an 18 day art exhibit presented by MorningStar Cultural Arts Group in honor of their 24th birthday is free and open to the general public from the 5 p.m. opening reception on Feb. 27 until Sunday March 17. Featuring the works and the talents of two dozen artists, speakers, presenters and workshop facilitators all free classes and interactive presentations require pre-registration by Feb. 20 as workshop size is limited. Workshops are free and open to men and women, though space is limited and pre-registration is required online at www.savannahjea.org, by calling the JEA 912-355-8111.

March featured artists at Gallery 209
March. Gallery 209, 209 River St. Gallery 209 will feature the work of artists Kathy Miller & Linda Whitt Smith for the month of March. Long time Savannah artist Kathy Miller’s oil paintings have been a favorite of Savannahians and visitors for over 40 years. Linda’s crystalline glazed ceramics are created using several different types of crystalline glazes which are considered special effect glazes. Contemporary Prints from Hungary
March. Savannah Center for Fine Art, 41 Drayton St. Savannah Center for Fine Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of fine prints published by eleven of Hungary’s leading graphic artists. There will be an opening reception on Friday, March 1, from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition will run through the end of March. Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 12-5 p.m.
