Don L. Waters, chairman, president and chief executive officer of local dental equipment manufacturing firm, Brasseler USA, has been appointed to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents by Gov. Nathan Deal.

“It’s a great honor for me to be nominated and appointed by Gov. Deal,” Waters said.

The Board of Regents has not had a representative from Savannah for many years. Waters is a good example of what can be accomplished with a quality public education. After graduating from Savannah High and  Armstrong State College, Waters went on to earn a law degree from the University of Georgia. He has been CEO of Brasseler since 1993 and serves on several local boards, including Union Mission Inc. and the Chatham County Hospital Authority.

The governor appoints members to the 19-member board. Regents serve seven-year terms. They are responsible for electing a chancellor to serve as the board’s chief executive officer and the chief administrative officer of the University System. The Board oversees the University System’s 31 colleges and universities, as well as Skidaway Institute of Oceanography and The Georgia Public Library System.
