A 27-year-old Savannah man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in front of a home in the Edgemere/Sackville neighborhood.

Achmed Kiwaan Williams was sitting on the front porch of a house in the 1100 block East 54th Street, near its intersection with Waters Avenue, about 3:15 p.m. when he was shot at least once by a gunman, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman. Williams was later pronounced dead after being transported to Memorial University Medical Center.

Officers, violent crimes detectives, a K-9 and forensics officers remained on scene much of Wednesday afternoon gathering clues about the homicide.

Crime tape remained up in the area and investigators were still on scene about three hours later as Edgemere/Sackville community leaders gathered at a church just a block away from the murder site for an already-scheduled meeting about crime in the area.

Williams was the seventh reported homicide investigated this year by Savannah-Chatham police, and the fourth in March.

Miller asked anyone with information about the case to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
A confidential tip line also is open directly to investigators at 912-525-3124.
