Two Savannah men have been indicted on charges of aggravated assault and firearms violations in the Nov. 3 shootout at the Coastal Empire Fairgrounds.
LaJuan Jerone Sloman, 22, and Shawn Hakeem Sibert, 21, committed aggravated assault by shooting eight others with a gun, the Chatham County grand jury determined in a 19-count indictment returned Wednesday.
In addition to an aggravated assault charge for each of eight victims, both men were indicted on charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in each case.
Sloman was indicted individually on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on a 2011 drug possession conviction, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Sibert was indicted individually on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon stemming from a 2011 conviction for making false statements.
Testimony at a preliminary hearing in January showed that eight people were wounded after gunfire broke out at the Medding Street site. Police rounded up 14 people after the shooting and recovered a .380-claiber pistol and three shell casings at the scene
