In her yellow and pink Easter dress, Laynee Jackson toted around a large, frilly purple basket that she carefully filled with brightly colored plastic eggs.

Finally satisfied with her crop, the 2-year-old plopped down in the middle of a grassy spot at Savannah’s Tiedeman Park to check her spoils as other youngsters around her continued to search.

“She’s done,” Megan Jackson said of her daughter as Laynee popped open a yellow egg to find a piece of chocolate. “She’s new to this — to Easter egg hunting and all, but I think she had fun.”

Hundreds of children Saturday filled the park, where four separate Easter egg hunts were put on by LifeBridge Christian Church on Easter’s eve. Volunteers donated 5,000 plastic eggs filled with candy.

The church also held a Doggy Fashion Parade in the park. About a dozen dogs showed off their Easter attire as a crowd lined the sidewalk to watch.

Lora Byrd’s Westies Bentley and Chanel showed off bright Easter-appropriate outfits as they enjoyed the attention of the crowd.

“They love it,” Byrd said of her dogs. “The attention is something they’re definitely enjoying today.”

Toddler Elizabeth Boone watched the dogs and also searched for eggs, but what really captured her attention was a bubble machine set up in the middle of the park.

The toddler watched awestruck as bubbles floated by her face. Within moments, she was dancing and trying to grab them.

“She loves to dance and run around,” said Sarah Hobbs, Elizabeth’s mother. “She’s having a blast. We moved to Savannah recently, and I was looking for something for her to do; this has been perfect.”
