BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — A city official who was arrested in a case involving the shooting death of a 13-month-old boy has surrendered on charges stemming from a racketeering indictment in a neighboring county.

Brunswick City Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem James Henry Brooks Sr. surrendered at the Camden County jail Monday. Brooks' lawyer, Alan David Tucker, tells the Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/128ruTT ) he's working toward a bail agreement with the District Attorney.

Brooks is accused of violating his oath of office and using his position to influence police department hiring procedures and issuance of liquor licenses and permits.

Brooks last week was arrested on charges of obstructing an officer and influencing a witness after stepping between police and the mother of a shooting suspect when they tried speaking with her after a court appearance.
