Holocaust Remembrance Day
4:30 p.m. April 7. The Jewish Educational Alliance, 5111 Abercorn St. Savannah’s observance of Yom HaShoah will take place April 7 at the JEA. This year’s theme will be “Righteous Gentiles.” The them was chosen to bring to light the little-known fact that during World War II, more than 24,000 non-Jewish individuals throughout Europe risked their lives to hide or rescue Jews from the Nazis. This year’s keynote speaker will be journalist and author Nancy Wright Beasley from Richmond, Va. The Yom HaShoah ceremony is open to the public and people from all faiths and walks of life are welcome and invited to attend.
Bike ride for charity
The Georgia Blue Knights Chapter VIII will host a police-escorted motorcycle ride April 7. Registration will begin at noon in the Savannah Morning News parking lot at 1375 Chatham Parkway. Lunch provided for registered riders. Kickstands up at 2 p.m. Proceeds from the ride will go to Concerns Of Police Survivors. For more information, call 912-484-2382.
Registration open for 2013 Youth Summit
The City of Savannah and Chatham County will hold the 2013 Youth Summit on Monday, May 13 from 5–9 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center. Local youth between the ages of 11-20 and their parents are invited to attend. A free dinner will be provided to participants, but pre-registration is required. Tybee Arts Association to perform ‘Til Beth Do Us Part’
April 7. Black Box Theater/Tybee ARTS Center, 7 Cedarwood Drive. The Tybee Arts Association Performing Society has scheduled its first play of the year, a comedy on the perils of being too busy and delegating too much, “Til Beth Do Us Part.” Friday and Saturday evening performances start at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees start at 3:30 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before seating for socializing and viewing the art on display. 2013 Gulfstream Spring Lecture Series
4 p.m. April 7. Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, 207 E. Charlton St. This lecture by SCAD M.F.A. candidate Alexa K. Boehringer will explore how Flannery O’Connor crafts Mary Grace as a violent social transgressor, a revelation-filled woman who can see, and force others to see, ultimate truth.
“Eternal life” lecture

International speaker Mark Swinney asks, “Could it be that God didn’t intend us to age?” Swinney will present a talk titled, “Eternal life” on Sunday April 7. April. The Jewish Educational Alliance, 5111 Abercorn St. After years of conforming her photography to 8x10 and 11x14 images, Debra Zumstein moved beyond standard frames. Her experiments led her to piece together multiple overlapping images creating photographs reaching up to 8 feet in length. Photographer Åsa Chibás’s images are captured with Holga cameras, inexpensive, medium-format plastic cameras that have become appreciated for their intriguing “low-tech” aesthetics. There will be an opening reception from 2:30-4:30 p.m. April 7.
