The Savannah Ronald McDonald House just released thie following statement:
The Board of Directors for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire has announced it will close the Savannah Ronald McDonald House this Friday after the discovery of mold in several areas.
RMHC is working with a team of experts to remediate the mold however the scope of the work is extensive and precautionary measures are being taken to prevent this situation from reoccurring. It is estimated that this entire process may take up to six weeks.
"After a series of rigorous inspections, preliminary tests results indicate that there is evidence of mold in several areas at our Ronald McDonald House,” stated Nikole Layton, Executive Director. “In the interest of the health and safety of our guest families, volunteers and staff, we have made the decision to close the House temporarily while we correct the issue. We appreciate the public’s concern and continued support during this time.”
Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, the families who were residing in the Ronald McDonald House have been provided with hotel accommodations, in addition to assistance with meals. Families will have access to Ronald McDonald Family Room® programs in Candler Hospital and the Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center for laundry facilities and other amenities.
The Savannah Ronald McDonald House opened in 1987 and has since provided a “Home away from home” to families whose children are undergoing treatment in Savannah area hospitals. Two other core programs operated by RMHC Coastal Empire include the Ronald McDonald Family Room and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
