Savannah-Chatham police arrested a 22-year-old man Wednesday at a Savannah house and charged him with the St. Patrick’s Day weekend murder of a man wanted by police in an unrelated double homicide.
Izell Marketh Perry was captured by Savannah-Chatham police and U.S. Marshals who were serving a warrant at a house in the first block of Eagle Street, said police spokesman Julian Miller.
Perry was charged with the March 16 shooting death of 32-year-old Sidney Grant in front of Club Frozen Paradise on Indian Street downtown.
Authorities also arrested 31-year-old Kevin Lamar Speaks at the house, Miller said. Speaks was wanted to for questioning in Grants’ death. Speaks was transported to the Chatham County Jail where he was being held on charges including contempt of court charges and probation violation.
Officers also arrested a resident of the house after cash, drugs and stolen weapons were found inside. Techina Denis Copeland, 28, was charged with trafficking in cocaine over 28 grams, possession of marijuana, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and theft by receiving stolen property.
Both Perry and Speaks have extensive arrest records with Savannah-Chatham police, Miller said. Perry has been charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, obstruction and making terroristic threats and acts. Speaks’ has faced charges including drug possession, obstruction and probation violation.
Grant, who died about 2 a.m. at the scene after he was shot, was wanted for questioning in the Sept. 1, 2012 shooting deaths of 30-year-old Michael Biancosino and 21-year-old Emily Pickels. Since Grant’s death homicide investigators have indicated they’d compiled enough evidence to charge him with their murders.
Miller said investigators were continuing to look into the homicides.
