A former Chatham County corrections officer wanted on a Recorder’s Court warrant turned himself in to Chatham County Sheriff’s deputies late Wednesday night.
Lewis Dion Lane, 34, was charged with sexual assault on a person in custody April 4, following a criminal investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office, said Cpl. Rhonda Bryant-Elleby, sheriff’s spokeswoman.
Lane was terminated by the sheriff’s office as a result of the investigation and the case has been turned over to the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office, she said.
Lane was being held in protective custody at the jail, Bryant-Elleby added.
