picks Clemson

Calvary Day junior Milan Richard, one of the top tight end prospects in the nation, made a verbal commitment to play for Clemson on Wednesday.

Richard, who is the nephew of University of Georgia legend Herschel Walker, was an Savannah Morning News All-Greater Savannah first-team selection as a junior after catching 23 passes for 243 yards and three TDs. He had narrowed his choices to Clemson, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss earlier in the week.

Muhammad selects SSU

Johnson High School senior Saadiq Muhammad has verbally committed to play basketball next season at Savannah State University.

Muhammad, a 6-foot-7 forward, was a second-team selection on the 2013 All-Greater Savannah Boys Basketball Team. He averaged 9.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game and helped lead the Atom Smashers the GHSA Class AAA state title.

All-PBC honors

for Bader, Miller

GREENWOOD, S.C. — Armstrong Atlantic State juniors Ethan Bader and Clayton Miller earned first-team honors at the Peach Belt Conference’s annual baseball awards banquet late Tuesday.

Bader earns his second All-PBC honor and first first-team honor as a starting pitcher for going 8-0 with a 4.09 ERA in 66 innings pitched for the Pirates. The Jacksonville, Fla., native struck out 49 batters, and six of his eight wins were against PBC foes.

Miller earned his first All-PBC honor as a catcher for hitting a team-best .372 with eight doubles, two home runs and 34 RBI.

Athletics place Reddick on DL

CLEVELAND — The Athletics are running out of healthy outfielders.

Oakland placed outfielder Josh Reddick on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right wrist on Wednesday, where the former South Effingham High standout joined center fielders Coco Crisp (hamstring) and Chris Young (quadriceps).

Reddick hurt his wrist colliding with the wall in foul territory while chasing a pop on April 7 at Houston. He missed three games, but the injury was not improving and the A’s decided to put him on the DL. Reddick is batting .152.
