Major Accident Investigation Team members of the Savannah-Chatham police department are trying to identify a man who died Wednesday night after being struck by an SUV on West Gwinnett Street.
The man was crossing Gwinnett going southbound just west of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard outside of the crosswalk just before 8 p.m. when he was struck by the Chevrolet Tahoe, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
He was transported to Memorial University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The SUV was being driven southbound on Gwinnett by a 28-year-old Savannah man.
Police continue to investigate the accident and to try to identify the victim.
