Chatham County’s elder abuse prosecutor today called for a total community response to assist in the effort to end crimes against those 65 years and older.
“I believe that every single one of us has the right to age gracefully and with dignity,” Assistant District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones told a group of senior citizens at the Hellenic Community Center.
Her presenation was part of the Chatham County Seniors and Law Enforcement Together Council's 13th annual consumer college for seniors to educated senior citizens about elder abuse, identity theft and provide them with tips to help keep themselves and their homes safe.
She urged people to be on the look out for signs of abuse and to report problems, pledging the response from police and prosecutors.
